Is the rental contract registered?

The landlord is required to register your rental contract. This has to be done within 2 months after you signed the contract. That way the Flemish Government knows that you are renting the property.

Do you want to end the rental contract? Then first check whether it is registered on Myminfin. You can find this under 'my property' and 'my rental contracts'. You can also check with the kantoor van rechtszekerheid

Is the rental contract still not registered at least 2 months after it was signed? Then you can end the contract without having to respect a notice period. You can leave on the first day of the following month at the earliest. You don't have to pay a notice fee either. Be sure to send your notice by registered letter (not by mail or text message).

Note: The landlord can register the contract until he receives your notice letter. So even after the 2-month deadline.

Example: Your rental contract started June 1, 2024. This is also the day you and the landlord signed contract. In August 2024, you want to move out. You see that the rental contract is not registered. You send a notice letter via registered letter to your landlord. You can then end the contract at the earliest on September 1, 2024.
